LET'S GO

It often feels like parents with children at school have more than enough to do with nightly homework supervision, term projects, school plays, sporting events, extra-curricular activities, music recitals and what seems to many- like a new fancy-dress outfit almost monthly.

And, to many, the regular and varied fundraising activities run by their school can feel like the straw-that-broke-the-camel's-back.

Cake-sales, sponsored activities, raffle tickets, collections of bric-a-brac and more, drive the average UAE parent to distraction.

An inspired PTA at an un-named US school decided to help parents out and turn the traditional bake-sale fundraiser on its head by simply asking parents for a donation.

Mum of three, Dee Heinz posted a copy of her children's Texas school's 'alternative fundraising' method, much to the delight of parents around the world.

For expats in the UAE, fundraising options can often be even more limiting as Dubai mum Michelle says, "I have no family here and only know two of my neighbours. Pretty much all of the rest of my social circle is made up from parents at the school, i can't ask them to buy something or sponsor my child, when i know they are already doing this for theirs too!"
