UAE To Get First Entirely Solar-Powered School
Woodlem Park School, currently under construction in Ajman and set to open in September 2017, has announced plans to be the first entirely solar-powered school in the country.
The school will be equipped with a solar plant which will generate the entire needs of the facility with additional power generated given back to the National-Grid.
Woodlem Park will utilise Innovative solar technology such as the mono crystalline low light panels to construct the power plant.
The technology will be installed by India-based HotPoint Green Energy Solutions in conjunction with a Germany-based solar company.
Dr Majid, chairman of HotPoint, told the Khaleej Times, "the school will be self-reliant in energy… these panels work in extreme climatic conditions with high efficiency.”
The impressive system will see 2000 panels installed during the initial phase, with 8,000 panels in use, when the school is complete.
According to Abdul Gafoor Thayyil, chief operating officer of the school the system will run, "about 600 air conditioners, 20 centralised 40-tonne air conditioner units, 1,800 LED lights, 125 computers and 150 smart boards."
He went on to say, "getting electricity connection for new projects is difficult in Ajman and schools are banned from using generators for power supply. Therefore we have opted for a solar panel plant that can not only save Dh4.5 million initial investment needed to take electricity connection, but the monthly electricity bill between can also be saved."
