Children in both private and public schools using the Ministry of Education curriculum, will start the new social studies and national education components issued by the Ministry of Education.
The 1.1 million new textbooks will be distributed to 408 private and public schools, the National reports.
The textbooks include an autobiography by the Ruler of Sharjah, Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. The book, published in 2009 and to be taught in Years 12, highlights the early years of the rulers life from the 1940s to the 70s, and covers milestones in the development of Sharjah, the Gulf and the wider Arab world.
The environmental/sustainability curriculum component will be covered in ‘Sustainable Development: the UAE as a Model, and Social Media: From the Tribe to Facebook.’
Another, by advisor to the Crown Prince Court, Dr Farouq Hamadeh, called Protecting Youth Against Destructive Ideologies, gives a solid intellectual and ethical base of knowledge to protect students from extremism.
