According to thepienews.com, (professionals in education) the number of international schools worldwide has currently reached 8,000 and the UAE and China lead the world in fastest sector growth.
The data comes from a research project by ISC research, which predicts that in ten years there will be 15,000 international schools worldwide, teaching over eight million students.
The UAE currently has 513 international school and Dubai alone is expecting 26 more in the next academic year.
Richard Gaskell, director for international schools at ISC Research, told thepienews.com, “worldwide demand for international schools comes from expatriate families who wish to ensure continuity of language, curriculum, examinations or orientation.”
“Secondly, and most significantly, an increasing number of wealthy local families seek out places for their children at international schools to give them an English-medium education with a learning approach and qualifications that provide the best opportunities for gaining and sustaining a place in a Western university,” he added.
Interestingly Pakistan came in third with 436 international school and India fourth with 401. The ISC also notes that Brazil and Latin America are also experiencing significant growth in the independent education sector as is Malaysia and Qatar.
