Post-16 Curriculum: A Level

Do you encourage external admissions for your 6th form? Yes, we encourage external applicants to Dubai College for the Sixth Form and over the past 3 years we have had between 10 and 20 places available.

What options do you offer? We are an A Level school with 20 courses on offer in the Sixth Form including the facilitating subjects preferred by UK universities in addition to a broad range of other creative and academic subjects such Art, Design, Latin and Government & Politics. We also offer the Extended Projection Qualification which is part of our preparation for the greater independent learning required in higher education. Additionally we are the only school in the UAE to teach the Advanced Placement award for CS50 which is Harvard University’s introduction to computer science and the art of programming.

A Level results 2017: 18% achieved A*, 52% at either A* or A grade, 28% of students  achieved all A* or A grades, and 67% of students achieved grades no lower than a B grade

Do you encourage external admissions for your 6th form? Yes, we do. External applicants are welcomed to Jumeirah College both from applicants within Dubai and from outside the region. External candidates are welcome to apply from the beginning of their Year 11 year.

Applicants need at least a GCSE grade B (6) in the A Level subject to be studied (see individual subject requirements in the Jumeirah College Sixth Form Prospectus.

Applicants will need to submit previous reports, complete a form indicating their chosen subjects, extracurricular activities and the student’s current school so that we can contact to obtain predicted grades. Places in Year 12 are then offered to successful candidates, conditional upon completing an admission fee, submitting documentation and the student attaining the required minimum grades for the offered subjects at GCSE/IGCSE.

What options do you offer? Jumeirah College studies A Levels. Students select either 3 or 4 subjects in Year 12, and depending upon the subject selection, may choose to take 3 subjects through to Year 13. The list of subjects offered at Jumeirah College is extensive, and all are offered as full A level subjects – see below.

The Minimum grade requirements to be eligible to apply for Jumeirah College is predicted grades of four B grades and two C grades at GCSE, two of which must be English Language (as a first language) and Mathematics.

Students are also required to complete a course of ‘Complementary Studies’ through Year 12 and again in Year 13. The students will complete a course of voluntary work or gain a skill that will enhance their profile and add to their University application.

When can external students apply? The JC Sixth Form Open Evening for 2018 entry is Wednesday 24th January 2018.

External students are encouraged to apply between September to December in the student’s Year 11. Applications are reviewed and offers are usually sent out before March of that academic Year. We review applications on receipt, so the earlier an application is made the better.

Do you encourage external admissions for your 6th form? Yes, absolutely. Sixth Form is a natural entry point for admissions, and we will accept on average 25 new students into the Sixth Form each year from local and overseas schools.

What options do you offer? We offer over 20 A-level options covering a wide variety of subjects, from Chemistry to Psychology to Economics. Additionally, we currently offer the BTEC National Diploma in Business and National Award in Travel & Tourism (equivalent to 3 A-levels), and are considering expanding BTEC options for 2018/19.

When can external students apply? We are accepting applications now.

Of note: We make conditional offers on the basis of school reports, a reference, and January mock GCSE exam results. For A-level study, we are looking for at least 6 GCSE grades of C or above, including English Language and Maths, and at least Bs in the subjects of study. For BTEC, we are looking for at least 4 grades of C or above, including English Language and Maths, however we consider each student on a case-by-case basis.

Do you encourage external admissions for your 6th form? Yes, we encourage external applicants to apply at Jumeira Baccalaureate School for Grade 11.

What options do you offer? Students are able to choose between studying on either the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP). Students admitted to the IBDP or IBCP have a range of subjects to choose from to build their course structure. This year we are offering the following subjects: English language and literature, Arabic language and literature (SL and HL), language acquisition in English, Arabic and French (SL and HL), geography, history, psychology (SL and HL), physics, chemistry, biology, design technology (SL and HL), mathematics (HL, SL and SL Studies), visual arts, music (SL and HL)

The A level courses we offer are comprehensive and include Mathematics, Further Mathematics (along with Mathematics), French, Spanish, Arabic, Islamic Studies, English Literature, Business Studies, Economics, Geography, History, Psychology, Design Technology, Music, Art and Design, Drama, Physical Education, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is also offered and is equivalent to half an A level.
