Staff at Dubai's private schools should prepare themselves for a surprise in the coming school year. A new body has been set up by Dubai school regulator the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) whose remit will be to drop in unannounced to assess a particular school's performance.
Amal Belhasa, chief of the Compliance and Resolution Commission (CRC), the newly set up body, said: “We do not notify schools before a CRC inspection. We have a right to visit at any time.”
There had been criticism in local media earlier this year suggesting that many schools attempted to rig the yearly KHDA inspection with a variety of techniques. These included putting the books of best-performing pupils at the top of the pile and rigging Q&A sessions with classes.
KHDA strongly defended the integrity of the inspection process stating that its inspectors were alert to any potential attempts to interfere with their work.
