There is significant room for improvement across Dubai’s Indian curriculum schools, according to a report issued by the emirate’s education regulator the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

Only two out of 25 Indian curriculum schools are rated outstanding - GEMS Modern Academy and the Indian High School - with eight reaching the ‘Good’ standard, 13 rated as ‘Acceptable’ and two are currently ‘Unsatisfactory’. Only one school improved its rating over the previous year, JSS Private School which moved from ‘Acceptable’ to ‘Good’. GEMS Our Own Indian School dropped from ‘Good’ to ‘Acceptable’.

“The Indian schools have shown significant improvement in their students’ performance since 2007 and are moving closer to achieving the aspirational targets,” according to the report. “However, despite the average score in Grade 8 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study assessments almost reaching the UAE target, the students still have significant gaps to achieve the other targets.”

There are currently 75,175 pupils attending Dubai’s Indian schools which employ 8,898 teachers.
