The owner of a special needs school in Dubai has absconded leaving 53 pupils with no school and their parents severely out of pocket.

Pupils and parents were stunned to be greeted with a sign pinned to the front gate of  St Andrews, in Jumeirah, Dubai saying:

“It is with the utmost regret that I have to inform you that St Andrews School will not be reopening tomorrow, Wednesday, 5th September 2012 as the owner, Christopher Reynolds, has left the country and absconded with all the funds.

“For any and all further information regarding the above, please contact the Ministry of Social Affairs.”

A photograph of the sign was emailed around most of the parents, but some new pupils were not on the email address list and turned up all ready for their first day at their new school.

Anxious parents and staff had been trying for several days without success to get hold of Australian expat Reynolds, who holds the school’s licence with the Ministry of Social Affairs.
