New Indian School Year, Admission Fears
The Abu Dhabi Indian School recently conducted a lottery for the 75 places it has available this year – more than 1,500 children were registered for the lottery.
Indian curriculum schools throughout the UAE have been fielding calls from parents anxious to secure a prized place for their children in time for the beginning of the new academic year in April.
There are particular concerns among Abu Dhabi based parents as the shortage of places that already existed has been sharpened over the past couple of years by the closure of so-called 'villa schools' by the regulatory authority Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC).
Principals in Abu Dhabi schools, speaking to the local media, have identified KG 1 and Grade 1 levels as the areas where demand is greatest. The Abu Dhabi Indian School recently conducted a lottery for the 75 places it has available this year - more than 1,500 children were registered for the lottery.
At an ADEC forum in January officials said that by 2020 nearly 4 billion AED must be invested to build 100 private schools in the emirate to serve the education needs of middle and low-income earning families.
I am very worried about the admission of my son in K.G.1. Indian curriculum schools have started, but until now my son didn't get admission. His valuable year is going to waste...
