Ras Al Khaimah is looking to ramp up provision of education within the emirate, in recognition that its ambitious economic growth plans need to be fueled by a strong supporting infrastructure - and that includes private schools.
Ras Al Khaimah is consolidating its two current free zones - RAK Free Trade Zone and RAK Investment Authority - into one, and creating the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (Rakez). Rakez will house around 13,000 companies.
While the creation of the new economic zone will impact numerous sectors in the city, of significance is the impact the merger will have on education.
The authority hopes the merger will, over the next five years, attract an additional eight new schools to the city.
Those offering either the UK or Indian curricula are the top requirements for the emirate.
The emirate currently has 15 private schools housing approximately 19,000 students.
Within 10 years, the authority expects to have a total of 30 to 35 private schools in the emirate.
Education in Ras Al Khaimah is significantly more affordable than that of its neighbours, with 'budget' options priced below AED 15,000, 'mid-range' between AED 15,000 and AED 25,000 and 'premium' around AED 25,000.
