Improved weather in the UAE calls for a picnic in the park.  And now with the winter holidays, taking the kids to the park is also easy and convenient...

... So long as you have a Nol card.

Dubai Municipality and Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have installed 70 smart gates in four public parks that now require a Nol card for entry.

Al Mamzar Park, Za'abeel Park, Mushrif Park and Creek Park will no longer have paper tickets. Those who don’t have a card must buy an AED 25 green Nol card from the counters at the park, which can cover family and friends.

Recharge for the cards will be available at the counters and various vending machines within the parks.

According to Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al Awadhi, Director of Public Parks and Horticulture Department at Dubai Municipality, the purpose of using NOL cards is to ease queues and reduce waiting time in public parks.

"People will no longer need human intervention to access parks. If they have a Nol card with balance, they can scan it on the smart gate and go in."

There will be special gates for people with determination (those with Special Needs and Disabilities) providing free access, both for them, and two companions.

Other Nol cards like Silver, Gold and Blue, as well as the special edition cards can be used for paying park entrance fees.

Fees to access public parks will remain the same.
