Aspen Heights British School Opens In Abu Dhabi

This week saw the official opening of Aspen Heights British School (AHBS), a new UK curriculum school in Abu Dhabi.

Located in Al Bahya, Abu Dhabi the school is open for FS1 to Year 6 students.

Fees range from AED 35,000 to AED 45,000 per year and facilities include science laboratories, gymnasium, cafeteria, IT rooms, Design & Technology areas, hall, dance studio, library, music rooms, food technology rooms, shaded outdoor play, and an outdoor five-a-side/netball pitch.

The school plans a firm focus on sustainability with initiatives such as a Turtle Sanctuary/rescue centre under the supervision of a locally based marine biologist in collaboration with the EAD (Environmental Agency Abu Dhabi), Masdar Institute and EWS/WWS (Emirates Wildlife Society/World Wide Fund for Nature), as well as a hydroponics farm where students will be able to cultivate fruit and vegetables and will be encouraged to develop healthy eating habits.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by principal Emma Shanahan, staff,  parents and children, plus VIP guests including Shehab Al Hashemi, CEO at Investment Holdings and chairman of Aspen Heights, representatives from the British Embassy in the UAE, and Christine Simmonds,-director of schools in the Gulf, International Schools Partnership.

Speaking at the event, Shehab Al Hashemi, chairman of Aspen Heights said, “this is a special day for us as it has been a long journey since the team made the acquisition of this land and started to build – the result is just fantastic."
