Abu Dhabi is set to welcome the UAE's first 'marine-school' offering programmes in marine biology and water sports.

Amity International School which has already opened for students in KG to Grade three, is set to expand next year, and in the process, plans to offer the country's first marine based education programmes.

The school's enviable location in Bahya, Abu Dhabi is set directly on the seashore and away from other developments, allowing for a boathouse, water sports activities and even a proposed turtle hospital.

According to the Khaleej Times, the school will offer students a range of water and marine courses. “During the early years of school, students will engage in fun projects and activities whilst exploring the mysteries of the sea through hands-on scientific enquiry, while secondary school pupils will study marine science, history and oceanography.”

Barbara Lubaczewska, AIS principal told the paper, "two of our students' parents are marine biology experts and they came to the school to give presentations on the subject. We are now planning to open a turtle hospital as well at the school.”

When AIS is completed in 2017, the school will offer KG1 to Grade 12 and have a capacity of 2,000 students, currently the school only offers to Grade three and has 930 children enrolled.
