The school called the Next Generation School will offer, “a fully integrated model of education that combines life skills, Arabic language, Islamic values and cultural identity” and will open in September 2016.

At full capacity, the 30,000 square metre campus in Al Barsha, Dubai, will accommodate over 2900 students from Pre-K to Grade 12.

The school will initially offer up to Grade 5, with Grades 6 to 12 added at a later date.

The NGS school plans to offer a “unique curriculum” which will draw, “on best practices from around the world and is inspired by the most innovative and internationally acclaimed teaching pedagogies from countries such as Canada, the United States, and Finland.”

According to founding principal Dr Sheryl Steinberg Abukar, “ at Next Generation School, our goal is to inspire students to make meaning of the world in which they live, and to discover worlds beyond that with which they are familiar.”

“One of my primary responsibilities as an educational leader is to construct a school environment that supports the accomplishment of these goals,” she went on to say.

US born founding principal Dr. Sheryl Steinberg Abukar has a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of California, San Diego and was the founding principal of the Islamic School of San Diego.

Facilities at NGS will include: modern classrooms, academic facilities, prayer halls, libraries, a botanical garden, labs, spacious indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, and playgrounds.

The school says digital and educational technologies will be an integral feature, facilities include; virtual and augmented reality systems, RFID student attendance, Access Control, Wi-Fi, CCTV, Public Address System, laser projectors, and interactive smart boards for learning.
