Plans to open a new Indian school in Abu Dhabi have been approved by the regulator Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), according to local media reports. The school will open its doors in September of this year and will welcome 2,500 students, reducing significantly the existing shortfall of available places in the capital.

The Mayoor Private School will be managed by leading private school operator Taaleem together with Mayo College General Council.

The original Mayo College, a highly regarded school in India, has been called the “Eton of the East” since its founding in 1870.

The school plans to teach the curriculum of the Central Board of Secondary Education, India.

On current estimates there is a shortage of between 5,000 and 6,000 Indian curriculum school seats in Abu Dhabi and the capital has fewer than 30 Indian curriculum schools in total.

Details on fee structure are still awaiting approval but a representative of the school said that fees will be 'moderately priced'.
