New French School in Dubai in 2017: Lycee Francais Jean Mermoz
2015 was a good year for French schools, with a first Outstanding rating being offered to Lycee Francais International Georges Pompidou, Primary. 2017 looks like it could be just as interesting with a new kid on the block from September, the Lycée Francais Jean Mermoz. The school will follow the official French program, with instruction in French. English and Arabic will be taught as separate subjects. The school will be based in Al Quoz.
The school was originally meant to open in September 2016, but postponed its starting date to September 2017.
Lycée Francais Jean Mermoz will be licensed by the French education ministry, and seek approvals/licensing with a "file will be submitted at the beginning of the school year". The school says it has obtained "all the necessary authorizations" from the KHDA, Dubai's education regulator.
The school will initially offer nursery and primary grades - nursery classes (small section, middle section, large section) and the CP, CE1 and CE2. Under construction, site visits for parents of prospective students have been possible from first quarter of 2016.
Lycée Francais Jean Mermoz says the main focus will be developing the autonomy of children, their analytical abilities, for students to become citizens of the world, and to be a cultural and sporting hub. To that end facilities at the school will include a 300-seat auditorium, a library, and a 25m pool. The school also promises many other 'luxury' sporting facilities.
School will operate from 8 am to 2 pm Sunday to Wednesday and until 12:25 on Thursday. After school activities will however be offered to develop cultural and sporting strengths and abilities.
A school bus service will be offered to parents.
Fees at the new school look to be mid-range, starting at 36,000 AED and rising to 47,000 AED. There is a however an acceptance charge of 5000 AED which will not be refunded in case of cancellation, but otherwise goes towards the first term's fees.
