A new dress code for all students attending Abu Dhabi schools, both public and private, will come into effect from September, according to a report in UAE weekly newspaper Xpress. Student will be required to wear ankle-length skirts or long trousers.
“We have received verbal intimation from ADEC to the effect that knee-length skirts will be banned when schools open in September,” a senior official at an international in Abu Dhabi school told XPRESS.
A senior staff member at another International school confirmed the ‘soon to be introduced’ changes.
“We have been told by authorities that high school girls will have to wear either long skirts or long trousers to school,” said the school staff. He added that ADEC is also considering new dress codes for private school teachers.
Some schools have already sent emails to parents informing them of the changes. A parent who received the email said she was not happy about the change. “Long skirts are not comfortable,” said an Australian parent whose daughter is studying in Grade 9 at an international school.
