A new Delhi Public School Society school has opened its doors, in April 2013, in Dubai. It is one of five new Indian schools expected to open this year to help lessen the sever demand for school places for Indian expat families.

The school follows the ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) curriculum, a deviation in curriculum from the two other CBSE based schools, the group runs in the emirates.

DPS based schools as a whole have a very good reputation among the Indian Expat community for the quality of education offered. The Sharjah based institution, Delhi Private School, Sharjah, has been rated a Which School Advisor Good School.

Enrollment has begun with a catchment area of both Dubai and Sharjah for the Academic City based location. Total capacity will be 3,500 students, but school intake will initially be 1,600 pupils from the KG to Grade 5.

Grades 6-8 are expected to begin in 2014.

Admissions criteria is academic, based on previous school results, performance in an interactive session and fulfillment of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority’s (KHDA) age criteria.

The new DPS Academy tuition fees will range from 21,000 AED to 30,000 AED, at the top end of Indian curriculum based schools.

You can find detailed fee information here.

In total twelve new schools are expected to open in the academic year 2013-14 - five Indian curriculum schools and seven British/IB schools.

The 12 schools will have a total physical capacity of 28,730 students, with a first year enrollment projection of about 5,000 students.
