14th Place: Jebel Ali Primary School (88% would recommend)

Jebel Ali Primary School has the ignominious honour of being the only school in the UAE to lose its Outstanding rating from the KHDA and not to have regained it (yet). However a proper reading of its KHDA report reveals that for parents whose top priority is not Islamic or Arabic studies (although certainly for the latter we have to ask why not for any nationality), this is still very much an outstanding school.

What makes it all the more impressive is that it has maintained a strong grounding and its quality during a time of both uncertainty and flux. Nakheel now own the land it was going to use for expansion, which means the school had been on the hunt for a new location, now believed to have been decided and to be between Mudon and Remraam. The move to a new building near the Akoya development (near Arabian Ranches) will allow the school to expand and also to offer secondary education, something that has long been sought by families at Jebel Ali. Whether this development will enable the school to continue to offer the “small school” and community feel is the big question. Currently split across two sites in Jebel Ali village, the move to a larger out of town location may take away some of the charm that has made this school so popular through the years.

Also growing will be fees: According to sources, 75,000 AED for Year 7 and a 25,000 AED personal debenture or 40,000 corporate debenture.

Primary fees will remain the same for now.
