The UAE government has placed Gender Equality at the heart of the National Agenda with a stated aim of becoming one of the world’s top 25 countries for gender equality by 2021. Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, has said that ‘the vision of the leadership is to enhance the role of women and promote gender equality through maximum female participation’.
Laudable goals, but perhaps difficult to achieve without gender equality visible to all our children in schools and educational settings. The lifelong core values in each of us are embedded during our most formative years, meaning that if gender parity is to be achieved, the education world has a pivotal role to play.
It is these inspiring educators, in classrooms and in leadership, in early years right through to adult education and training, who we at WhichSchoolAdvisor.com aim to celebrate in our new series Inspiring Women in Education.
We intend to interview a cross section of women, across different nationalities and age groups, in order to explore their achievements, pathways to success and future goals. We hope to inspire the younger generation with tales of tenacity, hard work and accomplishment.
This series will be accompanied by an ongoing WhichSchoolAdvisor.com Women’s Mentorship Programme, which we will launch on International Women’s Day, 8th March 2018.

This will be a regular feature, and one where we would welcome nominations and suggestions from our readership. Is there an inspirational woman in your educational setting? Are YOU an inspirational woman who would be willing to mentor and guide young teachers? We’d love to hear from you.
For the first in this series, we take at look at the life and career of Rebecca Annand, Managing Partner of Infinite Learning, a centre of lifelong learning for teachers across the UAE. Rebecca has had a varied and fascinating career, in and out of the world of education and we hope her journey inspires both women and men alike.
