LET'S GO

Hamdan Bin Mohammad e-University (HBMeU) in Dubai has launched an online initiative that offers a wide range of training courses via Facebook.

According to the press release the "competitive-priced" Arabic and English initiative offers 1,200 online lessons in maths, sciences and IT for grades 4-12, based on "the best" international curricula.

It will also offer 75 online sessions in business skills for adult learners; and 600 online lessons in English language for all age groups from 3 years to adults, based on Cambridge curricula and examinations.

To access the courses, a fee is paid online at HBMeU's site, and the user downloads the Facebook application. Costs are detailed on the site. A one month package to courses costs 50 AED, a 3 months package 140 AED and a 1 year package 500 AED. The Arabic Language Course for 1 year is also priced at 500 AED.

When a student completes a course he will automatically receive a certificate to state he or she has taken the course. A university certificate is available if the student sits for an exam at HBMeU.

The university says it is initially targeting 2.5 million casual learners. For more information, and to download the Facebook application, you can go here.

Online education is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, growing at 10 times the rate of traditional education. Moreover traditional providers are increasingly the leaders online with universities across the globe beginning to role out limited, but often free or competitively priced, courses to students.
