A 13-year-old has a part of her university expenses covered after she won 250 grams of gold in the 23rd Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) jewellery promotion.

The grade eight student, Hanna Hashim became one of the lucky winners in the gold raffle when her dad filled out a coupon in her name and won a gold coin.

A student of Sharjah Indian School, told Gulf News that she didn't know her name had been entered in the draw until she was called that she had won gold worth AED37,500Hanna said:

“ I couldn’t believe it. It was my first time to win a gold coin. I want to keep this gold coin for my higher education. I want to become an architect and I’m thinking to continue my studies in India.”

Her father Hashim K.B., residing in the UAE for the last 20 years, said it was a gift from Hanna’s uncles that gave them the chance to enter the draw.

“Hanna’s uncles gifted her a gold necklace which gave us the eight tickets to fill in for the draw,” said Hashim.

“I filled two coupons in Hanna’s name and, on January 7, we got the call. It was a very happy moment for the whole family and we will keep it for her future education.”

Gold buyers stand a chance to win up to 33 kilos of gold, worth AED5 million during DSF, which runs until January 27.
