Students from GEMS Modern Academy school won in the inaugural Elite School League (ESL), a cricket tournament conducted and hosted by Robin Singh Sports Academy in the UAE.

The League produced centuries, deadly bowling spells and spectacular all-round performances.

Robin Singh, an Indian Test star and renowned coach, was at ESL to identify top cricket talent in the UAE.

His team shortlisted 22 outperforming students including Shoun Roger from Our Own English School, Ahaan F – Cambridge International School Dubai, R Aakash – Delhi Private School, Ronak Panoly – Gems Modern Academy and N Pancholi – The Indian High School among thise who will receive high-performance training at the Robin Singh Sports Academy free of cost.

“The 22 kids will get free intensive coaching for a week. They will then play a match, out of which we expect to shortlist at least 5 if not more of the top performers. We will then take them to the Indian Premier League. I am associated with Mumbai Indians and I would like to take these boys there to make them interact with the team, see the commitment, the training and make them understand how professional cricket is played.”

The 22 shortlisted children are aged from 11 to 16 years.

He said the level of cricket in the UAE still had a long way to go but said he was impressed with the passion, enthusiasm and a keen interest to learn.

“Competitions like these allow us to assess the level of cricket among students in the UAE and tailor the coaching curriculum. Our aim is to provide the right training and facilities to the budding talent in the country to ensure we continue the flow of cricketers coming to the national teams.”

A total of 30 schools participated in the Elite School League.

Robin Singh's advice to young budding cricketers:

  1. Be committed - punctual and disciplined
  2. Have a goal and work towards it
  3. Be willing to take advice and listen
  4. Be aware as to what is going on around you to learn better
  5. Don't be afraid to ask questions

RS Sports Academy operates at GEMS Modern Academy and Ajman MCC cricket ground.
