The GEMS Education Rewards app, originally announced in January this year, has, after much anticipation, been rolled out for all GEMS parents, teachers and staff.
The aim of the card - "long term" - is to make a GEMS education cost neutral.
To gain momentum GEMS has used UAE-based 'The Entertainer' for its deals and technology.
The Android and iOs app has launched with over 2,000 discounts, offers and benefits across the UAE. One poster on the WhichSchoolAdvisor.com Facebook page commented: "It's amazing, with so much on it," adding that there would be "no need for an entertainer app next year."
The Entertainer has discount apps in over 15 countries, and its solution is tried and tested, with white label solutions already available from companies such as du and HSBC.
GEMS will however no doubt be looking for exclusive offers. Speaking at the launch event, Dino Varkey, chief executive officer at GEMS Education, said, “[We] have been committed to families in the UAE for almost 60 years and have a unique network and community. We have developed GEMS Rewards as a way to directly enhance the well-being of GEMS families.
"Thanks to our unique scale, many of the region’s leading brands are keen to partner with us in contributing to the UAE’s ‘Year of Giving’.
"Many more will come on board in the coming months."
"Our long-term aspiration is that this programme could potentially make tuition fees ‘cost neutral’.”
According to GEMS, over 10,000 GEMS families have already began to use the app.
In addition to discounts across food and drink outlets, beauty and fitness, attractions and leisure, retail/services and hotels, parents can also claim discounts on tuition fees at many GEMS schools.
These include up to 7% off school fees by using the GEMS NBAD credit card and the referral Ambassador programme – which allows up to 4 percent savings on tuition fees for each referral to a GEMS school. These however run in parallel to the app as pre-existing offers to GEMS parents.
