Calculations show that Friday 15 June should be the first day of Eid, however, the moon sighting committee still needs to announce the exact dates based on the sightings of the moon.

The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar based on the moon and astronomical calculations say that Ramadan this year will last for 29 days

Most school calendars have shown school holidays from Thursday June 14 to Sunday June 17. Again these holidays will be subject to an official announcement.

The second Eid, Eid Al Adha, is expected to fall on Wednesday, August 22, which will be during the school summer holidays.

The new academic year is expected to begin on September 2, although schools have been given a week from that date to start the term.

Traditionally, Eid Al Fitr is celebrated after the first sighting of the crescent moon, however, if the moon is not observed immediately after the 29th day of the lunar month, then it is celebrated the following day.
