The DESC expansion plans will see DPS-Academy, located on an adjoining plot, re-purposed into a dedicated sixth-form college for students in Years 12 and 13 by September 2017.

A spokesperson for the school said, “given that the main beneficiaries of facilities at the new site will be Sixth Formers, the Year 7 to Year 11 students stand to gain a great deal of additional learning and social space at the current DESC site. The Sixth Form, meanwhile, will enjoy fabulous new facilities housed in an engaging, spacious and modern educational environment.”

Andrew Gibbs, principal of the not-for-profit DESC and its sister school, DESS, said, “this is a tremendously exciting development in the history of DESC and DESS.”

“It is absolutely not about getting bigger for its own sake, but rather about adding to capacity, developing even more fantastic facilities, offering different curriculum pathways and being able to offer a truly outstanding educational experience to a greater number of students.

“Having to say no to a student on the grounds of being over-subscribed is one of the most difficult messages to give, especially when I know what they are missing.”

“Class sizes will continue to fall as we apply more teachers to our timetable,” said Gibbs.

Growth in this case, especially given the number of new spaces acquired, will see us able to enjoy the benefits of a much larger campus. The plan to develop the new site is very much a long-term one. Incrementally, more and more will be added to our new site, but at the same time maintaining appropriate levels of investment at both the current DESC and DESS sites,” he added.

The DESC expansion plan comes just a month after, WhichSchoolAdvisor.com announced the Indian CISCE curriculum DPS-Academy would close at the end of the Indian curriculum school year, in March.

Concerned parents contacted WhichSchoolAdvisor.com to help them understand the process and assist in finding new school places.

Parents at the school were upset given that admissions for the 2017/18 academic year had already commenced and school fees had already been paid.
