What the KHDA says: GEMS International Al Khail registered 20 unique indicators up from the 2015/16 inspection report meaning it rose from Acceptable to Good this year.
Despite this however, Islamic Education and Arabic Language are still considered Weak to Acceptable, attainment in English, maths and curriculum development at MYP level is also still considered only Acceptable.
The report highlights, “teaching and assessment are generally Good in most subjects across the school. Teachers in almost every subject encourage the use of an inquiry approach.
Assessment practices have improved across the school. Increasingly, assessment data is used to set targets for the next steps in learning.
The design and implementation of the curriculum is largely Good, but adaptations are required to challenge the most able, and in Arabic and Islamic education to improve students’ attainment and progress.”
Innovation: The school has appointed leaders of innovation. They are driving the innovation agenda in all aspects of provision. However innovation is not yet embedded in all subjects.
Facilities: Specialty science, technology and visual and performing arts classrooms, black box theatre, cafeteria, dance studio, music classrooms, library, medical centre, outdoor amphitheatre, parent café, IT labs, 6 lane-25m pool, full-sized football pitch, multi-purpose sports hall, outdoor mixed games courts, shaded outdoor spaces, sports hall.
Notes: GEMS International School Al Khail, boasts top facilities and GEMS management backing. However, the school is still relatively new, (established only for four years) this means it is only in its second inspection. Currently the school only extends to Grade 10 and as such it has no DP exam results to display.
