Parents in Dubai have been warned against using illegal day-care centres operating in apartments or villas in the emirate.

The centres have sprung up around Dubai as the cost of nursery facilities has risen.  Speaking to local media a senior Dubai government official has warned that parents are putting their children's safety at risk by signing them up for such facilities.

“Operators of daycare centres need a licence to run such a facility. It is an economic activity and cannot be run without a licence. It is illegal and one can face a fine,” said Mohammed Shael, Chief Executive Officer, Business Registration and Licensing in the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED).

According to the official  no fines have been issued to individuals hosting illegal daycare centre over the past 18 months however.

Many of the illegal daycentres are advertised via social media or popular classified online websites.
