AED1,000 Fine & Black Points For Ignoring School Buses
Motorists in the UAE have been told they need to respect school bus ‘stop signs’ or face AED 1,000 fine and 10 black points.
According to the new amendment, the penalties will apply to any drivers who stop at a distance of less than five metres from the bus.
Bus drivers will also incur Dh500 and six black points if they fail to display the bus 'stop arm’ when picking up or dropping off pupils.
The warning comes from Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for Operations Affairs and chairman of the Federal Traffic Council and is in accordance with Resolution No (178) of 2017 on traffic rules and procedures, and resolution No (91).
He went on to urge school bus drivers and parents to adhere to the specific speeds and follow the rules when transporting children.
He also called on drivers to be careful while passing through the streets near schools, and when entering and exiting the school premises.
Zafin told the Khaleej Times, new school traffic facilitation measures will be controlled by 40 new traffic police officers.
In addition, parents are should not allow their children to cross roads alone, no child under 12 should be seated in the front seat of vehicles and parents should adhere to designated school drop-off or parking spots.
