Four more 'villa schools' have been closed down by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) in its ongoing campaign to re-locate such schools into purpose-built school buildings. The schools which have been closed are Al Fajr English International School, Gulf Buds Private School, Salah Uddin Private School and the Philippine National School.

Parents were informed of the closure at the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year to allow them enough time to find alternative schools for their children.  ADEC's aim is to close all villa schools by summer 2015.  There had been 72 such schools in the capital in 2009 when the regulatory authority announced its plan to move them to alternative sites.

According to ADEC there are currently 18 villa schools still operating in Abu Dhabi. Six of these are currently planning to move to new buildings once they have received the necessary approvals, four are planning to start construction and eight are due to close by the end of the 2014-2015 academic school year.
