Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) announced yesterday that it has given approval to 24 private schools to increase fees for the 2017/18 academic year.
A statement released by ADEC said the increase would be approximately three percent.
UAE newspaper, Gulf News, reported parental concerns across the capital about rising costs, noting three percent was still significant given 'the regional economy is facing a slowdown.'
According to Arabian Business, a total of 84 schools submitted requests to ADEC to increase fees, however, 60 private school requests were refused an increase for the 2017/18 academic year.
An ADEC spokesperson said the council took into account a number of factors before approving any requests for fee increases.
These include the number of Emiratis employed, bettering teacher salaries and investment in facilities and campus.
Last year, 51 schools were given approval to increase fees by an average of 6 percent.
ADEC has not yet released a list of the schools which have been given permission to increase fees.
