Abu Dhabi has updated the Emirate's school bus transport law, adding the compulsory use of three-point seat belts in all school buses, reports the Filipino Times.

In addition, school buses will be fitted with tracking systems, internal and external cameras, mandatory fire-extinguishers and windows which are breakable in the event of an emergency.

The amendments are believed to have been driven by last month's bus crash in which 47 children were injured.

ADEC in conjunction with Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Transport and Municipal Affairs have set up a committee to implement the raft of new measures.

Operators will need to comply with the new safety regulations when they register. Inspections will  be carried out to ensure the bus companies are complying with the new regulations.
