A new child protection policy will now cover all Abu Dhabi students under the age of 18, it was revealed yesterday.

ADEC developed the policy in response to the new UAE-wide Federal Law No.3 or Wadeema's law- as its more commonly known.

According to the National, the policy came into force at the start of the 2016/17 academic year and covers physical, emotional and sexual abuse plus corporal punishment, bullying, exploitation and neglect.

ADEC's director general, Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, Adec’s director general said, "school principals, school staff, ADEC employees and parents are all responsible of reporting suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. Protecting our children is the responsibility of the community at large. Anyone who suspects or witnesses any risk, harm or injury inflicted on a child, must immediately report it and without hesitation."

Anyone wishing to report an incidence of child abuse is now asked to call: 116111 or visit the ADEC website here.
