All Schools to Close on Thursday - Bad Weather

All public and private schools in the UAE are to close on Thursday 10th March according to a directive from the Minister of Education, Hussain Al Hummadi, however CBSE examinations are expected to continue as planned, at least in Dubai.

Mohammed Darwish, Chief of Regulations & Permits Commission at Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) confirmed all private schools in Dubai would close on Thursday. “Due to predicted weather conditions, private schools in Dubai will remain closed on Thursday 10 March keeping in view the safety of students and staff.

"Schools are advised to use their discretion to assist any students appearing for external examinations.”

CBSE examinations are currently ongoing.

Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) had earlier announced that all schools in the emirate would close on Thursday.

Most schools closed on Wednesday with schools in Dubai and Sharjah joining those in Abu Dhabi. ADEC had announced on Tuesday night that all schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain would close on Wednesday.

In Dubai closures were on a case by base basis. Amal Belhasa, Chief of Compliance & Resolution Commission at Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), told Gulf News: “Schools can decide to close early in response to weather conditions and other operational issues prevailing on a particular day.”

Schools that closed early included Oasis School, Dubai English Speaking School (Oud Metha), Dubai English Speaking School (DIAC), Al Salam Private School, Jebel Ali Primary school – both branches, Emirates International School, Star International School, Mirdif, Star International School, Al Twar, Gems Metropole, GEMS Wellington International School Al Soufouh, The Philippine School.

In Sharjah, Sharjah English School had informed parents it was closing from 1pm.
