Education officials in the city announced yesterday that there will be 17 new schools offering a total of 24,000 new seats over the next two years.

Although it has not been clarified which curriculums will be on offer, reports mention a mix of British, American and Ministry of Education amongst the new offerings.

The news comes after an ADEC announcement in February stating that there will be 5,221 new Indian school seats for the 2016/17 academic year.

According to Emirates 24/7, ADEC’s PSQA sector noted, “three new Indian schools opened last year (2015-2016), in addition to adding another 1,700 new school seats by expanding another two Indian schools, providing a grand total (new and expansion) of 3,880 seats for the 2015-2016 academic school year.

“During 2016-17 academic school year, ADEC will introduce one more new Indian school with a capacity of 1,672  in addition to expanding another four Indian schools, providing more than 3,550 school seats.”

Officials said that school enrollment has been increasing at a rate of seven percent each year for the past five years, and although set to slow to five percent for the foreseeable future.
