Norman Foster designed Dubai Design District, d3, is a purpose-built master-plan development in Dubai dedicated to the design community including startups, entrepreneurs and established international design, luxury and fashion brands.
Inspiration comes from the Meatpacking District in New York, and Shoreditch in London, and yet these communities evolved by being slightly off the grid, with cheap(er) rent, attracting up and coming designers.
d3 aims to start with the "gentrified", or certainly purpose built real estate, with rentals priced to fit. TECOM, the master developer, is not known for being a cheap option.
Despite that plans are ambitious with a target of 6,000 "designers, artists and craftspeople". d3 will also offer space for workshops, galleries and boutique retail spaces.
The area will eventually also include residential and hospitality space.

It includes a 1.8 km waterfront development with food and beverage outlets, hotels, retail outlets and a multi-use outdoor space.
The community has good transport links. It is close to Mohammed Bin Rashid City and is adjacent to Dubai’s Business Bay. The District is situated beside Dubai Creek, and behind Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
