A little bit of a hub for education, Al Maqam is home to local schools Al Hemma, Al Esra'a and Al Zehrat Primary schools, Al Maqam Secondary School, Um Kalthoom Girls School, and the rather uninspiringly named Al Gaith Girls School for Basic Education.
The area is also a hub for medicine, with hospitals, teaching centres and research centres, including the rather futuristic Tawam Molecular Imaging Centre (pictured).
The area is also home to the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and Al Tawam Medical College.
With this much studying going on, good job there is also a Starbucks on Khalifa bin Zayed Road (admittedly inside Al Tawam hospital)!
Al Maqam is itself a little on the fringes of the city. Accommodation is mixed - villas, including compound villas near Tawam roundabout, apartments and studios, and even shared villas - or bedsits. If you have a family, check your neighbours...
Shops, cafes, pharmacies... are all available in the area, many dotted along the main roads that run along the perimeter...
