An area within central Abu Dhabi that encompasses Madinat Zayed, and therefore Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre, The Iranian Modern Science School and the Hamdan Shopping Centre. One of the older areas of the city, and next to the Tourist Club area - considered by many the heart of the city.
The area is dominated by low mid-rise commercial and residential buildings. Congested, it cannot be considered particularly family friendly, however in the heart of the city, cafes, restaurants and malls will never be far away.
Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre itself is said to be the place in the city to go for cheap, international retail shopping. It is described by Time Out Abu Dhabi as "chaotic, eclectic and sprawling... a little bit like a giant indoor version of Karama in Dubai. You know, the “watches” place.."
