Wells International School Bang Na offers an affordable option for early years education at its city central campus in Bangkok, and is a popular stepping stone to its all-through American school.

Wells International School Bang Na has all the benefits of a city centre location combined with a spacious and green campus. Located in the Prawet district of Bangkok, this nursery and primary school offers an American-styled education to children aged two through to seven years (Nursery to Grade 3). Looking ahead, the school hopes to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), and is currently waiting for authorisation.

Wells Bang Na is one of three campuses run by the school in Bangkok; this trio of schools also includes another kindergarten and early years centre in Thong Lor and an all-through school in On Nut. They are all branches of the EverClever Education Group, a conglomerate of institutions that also includes the Bangkok School of Management and EverClever Language School.

Opened in 2011, this is the newest of the Wells campuses. While the majority of teachers are from the US, Bang Na is very much an international campus, with students representing more than 15 countries worldwide. There are currently around 110 students at this small school, which has a wonderfully warm, intimate atmosphere that is perfect for those early years in education.

The curriculum
The American-based curriculum here focuses on hands-on learning, engaging physical and mental activities to teach language and literacy, maths, science, health and social studies, PE, and creative activities. At the primary levels (Grades 1 – 2), the curriculum is built upon the US Common Core Standards. This is a popular US framework for curriculum consistency across grades K to 12, and usually means that we can expect a strong focus on the arts, language, maths, science, PE, and social studies.

As well as focusing on the core subjects – English, science, maths, and social studies – the curriculum includes music, IT, drama, art, PE, Thai culture, Thai language, and modern languages (Japanese, Hindi, French, Mandarin Chinese, and Mandarin Taiwanese). Wells Bang Na also follows the popular US Literacy by Design programme, which develops reading, speaking, and listening skills.

Students have the option of continuing their education at Wells On Nut, an all-through school taking students from Kindergarten through to Grade 13. If Bang Na is approved to become an IB World School, we can look forward to it offering the IB PYP, which will help to prepare students for the IBDP if continuing their education at Wells On Nut (or any other IB school). These plans suggest that the school may be looking to expand, but for now it’s a case of wait and see.

In addition to the core curriculum, Wells Bang Na encourages students to participate in a wide range of after-school activities, including swimming, science, Mandarin, Thai, language support, magic, soccer, art, piano, creative literacy, strategic thinking, tae kwon do, ballet, and gymnastics.

The campus
The early years building is designed for little learners, from the shallow swimming pool through to the multiple play areas across the campus. As well as classrooms, there is a library, computer lab, cafeteria, and music and dance studio. The new primary school building is home to 16 classrooms, a library, salt water swimming pool, science lab, gymnasium, indoor/outdoor playground, and a dance studio.

Admission and fees
Enrolments are accepted year-round at Wells Bang Na. Tuition costs, which are all-inclusive and at the lower end of the scale for Thailand, range from THB 200,000 for Nursery through to THB 107,000 for K2 and THB 310,000 for Grade 1.
