Located next to the Black Mountain Hua Hin Resort, expats have welcomed the arrival of this small but expensive British school to Hua Hin, which currently enrols students up to Year 9.

There aren't many international schools in the seaside resort city of Hua Hin in northern Thailand – so the opening of Hua Hin International School in 2015 was certainly welcomed by the expat community here. Located at the entrance to Black Mountain, this British school is currently open for Early Years through to Year 13. It has a team of teachers recruited from the UK and follows the National Curriculum for England, with international tweaks including mandatory Thai and Mandarin lessons for all students. HHIS offers a two-year IGCSE programme as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

The school has a small international population of just 144 students, coming from the growing expat and Thai communities of Hua Hin town. Hua Hin has the capacity for 1,000 students, though, and it's important that as the school grows, it does not lose its community feel.

Surrounded by breathtaking natural landscapes, the school takes full advantage of its quiet, green location by offering outdoor lessons; the campus also has the space for playing fields, sports fields, a swimming pool, a basketball court, and a vegetable garden. Modern teaching facilities include an art room, library, Thai room, and music room, and there are plans to extend the campus by 2019 with specialist science labs, art studios, and another pool. There is a price to pay for a school in such an enviable setting, however, as HHIS has some of the highest tuition fees in Thailand.

A full review will be posted shortly.
