Chiang Mai International School (CMIS) is a Christian school offering an American-style education that works towards an Advanced Placement (AP) programme.
Chiang Mai International School (CMIS) has been educating the international community of northern Thailand for more than 60 years. Founded in 1954, CMIS is a non-profit day school for students from pre-school through to Grade 12. It's an American school that follows a US-style curriculum, offers the academically rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) courses at high school level, and has a predominantly American team of teachers. Owned by the Church of Christian Thailand, CMIS is also very much a Christian school; while it welcomes families of all faiths, it promotes the values of Christianity across the curriculum.
CMIS is a mid-sized school of around 500 students representing more than 30 different nationalities. The curriculum is closely aligned to an American standards-based curriculum, and students are continuously assessed using Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), Scholastic Aptitude Testing (SAT), the Common Core State Standards for Literacy and Mathematics, and Next Generation Science Standards.
The school delivers a well-rounded curriculum in all grades, with specialist subjects including IT, art, music, library, PE, and languages (Thai, French, Spanish, and Mandarin). At high school, students work towards a high school diploma and have a choice of electives including studio art, 3D art, sculpture, theatre arts, technical theatre, band, choir, dance, desktop publishing, film & storytelling, philosophy, strength & fitness, and independent study projects. Students in Grades 10 to 12 can also study college-level courses through the Advanced Placement (AP) programme. All students are provided with a Google Chromebook from middle school.
Beyond the classroom, CMIS has competitive and recreational teams in badminton, basketball, football, futsal, swimming, table tennis, track and field, and volleyball. It has a wide range of after-school clubs, including Christian groups, and encourages its high school students to complete 60 hours of community service before graduation.
The school is currently expanding its campus with new facilities including a swimming pool, classroom building, library, and cafeteria building.
