There are many all-through international schools in Thailand that take students from pre-nursery through to the college years. Bromsgrove, however, is spread across Bangkok: Bromsgrove Early Years for children aged two to six years, and Bromsgrove International School Thailand (BIST), a primary and secondary school for students aged 7 to 18 years.
Bromsgrove Early Years is located in Ramkhamheang, where the school was founded in 2002; in 2004, Years 2 to 13 moved to the new, larger (BIST) Windsor Park campus in the Min Buri district of Bangkok. Bromsgrove Thailand is the only international export of the UK’s Bromsgrove School, which was established in 1553 and has a reputation for academic and sporting excellence.
The majority of teachers at Bromsgrove Early Years are British, and students are mostly Thai, Korean, and Taiwanese. For some parents, there is the appeal of having a separate campus for pre-Nursery through to Year 1, which is smaller, more intimate, and completely tailored for young learners.
A British education
Bromsgrove Early Years follows the British Foundation Stage curriculum for children aged two to five years, followed by the National Curriculum for England for five to six years olds in Year 1. There’s an holistic approach to learning here, and “the fundamentals of language and numeracy are supported by creative learning, decision making and problem solving”. While the school remains very committed to the English curriculum, it does embrace its international setting by teaching Thai to all students and celebrating global festivals and celebrations.
In the school’s own words, students have,
“the same opportunities and experiences that they would receive in a traditional British independent school whilst at the same time learning about the local Thai culture.”
Many students continue their education at BIST, and the school helps to make this transition to ‘big school’ as smooth as possible. Students visit the BIST campus for various events such as sports day, “so they are familiar with the school environment”.
Extra-curricular activities are offered from Nursery onwards, and range from academic subjects such as English, maths, and ICT to sporting activities, music, choirs, orchestra, and ballet. Music and singing lessons are available alongside the regular curriculum.
Admission and fees
Fees range from THB 290,070 for pre-Nursery through to THB 361,080 for Year 1. There’s also a compulsory annual fee for meals, which is THB 29,910.
