A newcomer on the education scene, American Prep International School (APIS) is a progressive primary school in southern Thailand that focuses on e-learning.
Since opening just three years ago in southern Thailand, American Prep International School (APIS) has carved a niche for itself. APIS describes itself as an e-learning primary school where all students from Grade 4 upwards have a laptop and all textbooks are in digital format. The school also embraces the idea of blended learning, which means that while students have face-to-face instructional lessons, they also have the flexibility to complete their classwork online from any location.
Founded in 2015, APIS currently offers Kindergarten through to Grade 5 and has plans to add more grades as the school grows. It's a small school with just 80 students, which has the advantages of just 10 students per class. However, the school does not field teams for sporting events and it has a limited number of after-school activities, Thai boxing being one of them.
APIS follows the California State Education Department curriculum, which includes English language, maths, science, IT, social studies, art, music, and PE. Its holistic programme also focuses on five cross-curricular areas – Creativity, Critical thinking, Collaboration, Communication, and Compassion – which it terms the 5 C's of Character Development.
APIS is one of three schools in Hatyai and, as well as being the youngest, its fees are around 50% cheaper than the other two.
