Since opening in 1997, American Pacific International School's Main Boarding Campus has grown into an all-through day and boarding school that offers a combination of International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement courses.

American Pacific International School (APIS) offers a very Western-style pathway to education across its two campuses in Chiang Mai. The school's Main Boarding Campus (MBC) has a primary school (Grade 1 – 6) and secondary school (Grade 7 – 12); as the name suggests, it offers both day and boarding places. It also has a primary campus in the centre of Chiang Mai that teaches Kindergarten through to Grade 5.

Teaching staff are mainly recruited from the US, and the curriculum follows the International Baccalaureate Programme, including the PYP and MYP from Grades 1 through to 10. Languages offered include Thai, Chinese, and Japanese; arts lessons focus on music, design, and visual arts; and PE is taught in all grades. In Grades 11 – 12, the school moves to an American high school programme. English language and maths curricula are based on the Common Core Standards, which is a popular US framework for curriculum consistency; students take Advanced Placement (AP) courses in maths, science, the arts, and humanities; and students graduate from the school with a APIS High School Diploma.

All high school students must complete 100 hours of community service over a four-year period, and students in all grades take part in the annual Classroom Without Walls programme, which focuses on team-building, leadership, voluntary work, and outdoor adventure. The academic curriculum runs alongside a very active athletics programme, which includes team sports in as volleyball, soccer, basketball, swimming, badminton, and cross-country, and a variety of after-school activities ranging from theatre and chess to the Model United Nations and team sports.

The MBC has four boarding houses for students from elementary level through to high school. The campus is located 25km from Chiang Mai's city centre, and what it lacks in accessibility it makes up for with its beautiful rural setting.
