This is a comprehensive curriculum, based on the English National Curriculum with references to the UK Key Stages 2 and 3, but adapted for international schools, with reference to the IB (International Baccalaureate)) inquiry-based approach to learning. It takes a very creative, thematic approach to teaching and encourages students to research and ask questions about what really interests them.
Just like the IPC, the IMYC follows thematic Units of Learning. Each unit involves six weeks of learning based around a ‘Big Idea’, which challenge students to think beyond a topic by and make connections to the full scope of IMYC subjects, including art, geography, history, ICT and computing, music, science, society, technology, language and maths.
Students are encouraged to learn about adaptability, balance, belief, celebration, challenge, collaboration, communication, community, competition, consequences, courage, creativity, curiosity, development, discovery, entrepreneurship, identity, interpretation, justice, leadership, reflection, relationship, renewal, resilience, resolution, respect, responsibility, risk, structures and tradition.
This is a curriculum where you are less likely to see teachers at the front of the class, talking to everyone. Instead, teaching follows a more collaborative, enquiry-based approach which is tailored to students working in smaller groups within the classroom.
There are no formal exams in the IMYC; instead, students are assessed continuously over the three years to work towards the next level of key skills across nine subjects.
