This Swiss international primary school offers a bilingual education in German and English – and a learning pathway to UWCSEA.

Located in the grounds of the Swiss Club, Swiss School in Singapore (SSIS) is a small, intimate school that is popular with the Swiss and German speaking expat community. Founded in 1969, SSIS is open from pre-school through to primary, and follows the Swiss curriculum of the Canton of Zug.

One of 17 officially recognised Swiss schools abroad, SSIS has a high proportion of Swiss students. The school offers the choice of German and French streams; classes are conducted in both German/English in the German stream and French/English in the French stream.

Up to age five, students are primarily instructed in English with German or French being introduced gradually. From Primary 1, reading and writing is then taught in German or French and English, and supplementary subjects such as science and swimming are taught in English.

Students in Primary 5 and 6 are prepared for a secondary education at SSIS’ affiliated school, the United World College of South East Asia; SSIS students can enrol in UWCSEA’s German language programme at its Dover campus, where they can study IGCSEs and the IBDP.

Here's a school that is focused on preparing children for further education at any German or French speaking school. Its German and French streams are supported by after-school activities in all three languages; the library is stocked by a wide variety of books and DVDs in German, French, and English; and teachers are primarily recruited from Switzerland.

As well as having a strong academic focus, SSIS offers an holistic educational programme that includes music, arts and crafts, design, and sport; in Primary 5 and 6, there is an annual class camp in Indonesia. What SSIS’s small campus lacks in flashy facilities, it makes up for with its close-knit community feel, and it has full use of the Swiss Club’s facilities including a swimming pool, soccer field, gym, and arts and craft room.
