This small Indian curriculum school offers families the benefits of a central location and all-inclusive tuition fees of less than $15,000 per year.

GIG International School (GIGIS) offers an affordable education to families looking for an Indian curriculum school.

GIGIS is located in a small but modern campus in centrally-located Newton. While class sizes are smaller than at some other Indian schools in the city-state – and are capped at 25 students – the classrooms at the Newton campus are relatively small.

This small school currently teaches the CBSE curriculum for Classes 1 – 5, and after moving to the new campus it will offer Cambridge Secondary for Classes 6 – 8; there are future plans to roll out the IGCSE and IBDP programmes for Classes 9 – 12.

The school is part of the GIG Education Centre group, which has been offering internationally recognised teacher training certificates and professional development courses in Singapore since 2003. As an Indian school, the academic year runs from April to March.

The curriculum

From Classes 1 – 5, teaching is based on the CBSE framework and focuses on English, maths, environmental education, languages (French, Hindi, or Tamil), ICT, PE, life skills, and performing and visual arts; from Class 3 onwards students study science, social science, and Social Empowerment through Work and Action (SEWA).

The timetable includes one hour of co-curricular activities per week, which range from robotics to fine arts and aerobics; there is also a minimum of two extra-curricular activities held every week during the school day,  including swimming, martial arts, and basketball.

The campus
GIGIS has a small and basic, but technology enabled, campus with facilities including a language lab and spacious activity room; all students have access to iPads and laptops. Facilities at the Eunos campus include a performing arts studio, indoor play area, science labs, and an auditorium. There is no outdoor space, and students are bused out to use nearby sports facilities for PE classes and after-school activities; they use the nearby Farrer Park Swimming Complex and Cairnhill Community Club.

Admission and fees
GIGIS remains one of Singapore’s most affordable schools. All-inclusive annual fees are SGP 12,480 in Grades 1 – 5, and SGP 13,748 in Grade 6 and above; this fee includes tuition and fees for activities, student welfare, resources, technology, CCAs, ECAs, and celebrations.
