Located next to the Dynamics Therapy Centre in Orchard Road, this is a small inclusive mainstream school currently running four classes in Reception through to Grade 3, for “students who require academic support or simply benefit from a different type of instruction.” The Dynamics Therapy Centre has been offering paediatric therapies since 2005, and this marks its first move into primary, full-time education. The school, which opened in 2019, is registered with the Committee for Private Education (CPE).
As a small school that's built on the foundations of a well-established therapy centre, it appears well equipped to offer an alternative to mainstream education. Class sizes are small, with four to eight students in each class; teachers are qualified in special education or psychology; and all students have access to facilities at the neighbouring Dynamics Therapy Centre, including an indoor therapy gym, indoor play areas, and occupational, speech, and language therapists.
There's a teacher to child ratio of 1:4 or 1:1 depending on the child’s ability.
Yael Sasson, Director of Dynamics International School
"Since 2005, we have been passionate about helping children with unique educational needs, and our core expertise lies in having a wide range of in-house therapists who address these needs. The Singapore landscape has very few schools who are addressing the current demand of special educational needs inclusion in a mainstream setting. Even fewer have a full range of in-house expertise relating to occupational therapy, speech therapy, educational therapy, psychologists, early intervention and physiotherapy, which we can organise in a timely manner depending on student's needs.
“Students who enroll in Dynamics International School will be able to receive support in their educational journey as needed; establishing skills and confidence to be ready for mainstream setting in a large classroom or being supported in learning mainstream curriculum while addressing individual’s educational needs or having an alternative curriculum to address functional skills in communication and daily living skills with close therapists’ support.”
Curriculum
Teaching at Dynamics International School follows the National Curriculum for England combined with the International Primary Curriculum, which the school says ensures that it can be "truly inclusive and accessible to children and young people with exceptionally diverse needs.
The school offers a choice of two programmes that both follow the same curriculum: mainstream classes with a teacher to student ratio of 1:12, or special support classes with a lower teacher to student ratio of 1:6 and Individual Learning Plans for every student.
Lessons can be combined with speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy as required, which can be offered by the therapy centre's in-house team of therapists.
The school also offers a school readiness programme, to prepare students for mainstream schooling, and a special support programme that focuses on areas such as social skills, creative skills, computer skills, and daily living skills.
A small choice of co-urricular activities are offered at the end of the school day, including music
Lego, language arts and soccer.
The school has a central location on Orchard Road with just four classrooms and basic, specialist facilities including an indoor therapy gym, occupational, speech and language therapy rooms, and indoor play areas.
Admission and fees
Dynamics International School, which follows a January to December academic calendar, has rolling enrollment.
In addition to meeting the entrance requirements, all students will have an interview and school tour with the school principal; some students may be asked to attend a trial lesson and an assessment with an educational psychologist.
Annual tuition fees are $15,000-17,000 for students in the mainstream programme, and $30,000 for the special support programme. Therapy fees are charged as extra.
