In the school’s own words,
“The 5 Steps System™ is based on the rational use of age-appropriate characteristics of the stages of the child’s development with the main goal of accelerating their mastery of school curriculum.”
The school day starts slightly later than the norm at 10am, and runs until 2.40 pm; the teacher to student ratio is a very low 1:8.
5 Steps Academy is a Cambridge International School and a US College Board approved all-through school, offering both US and UK curricula. Every student has their own learning plan and exam dates, set according to their personal pace; they have a choice of pathways and the opportunity to sit exams including SATs, Advanced Placement, IGCSEs, and A Levels.
The school focuses on English, maths, science, Chinese, and Russian at elementary level, and then biology, chemistry, physics, economics, world literature, history, and geography at secondary level. There’s also a strong emphasis on extra-curricular activities, from drama and music to sports and coding, and all students are required to complete community service as part of the social programme.
Admission and fees
5 Steps Academy is a non-selective school. There’s no formal academic year at 5 Steps Academy; students can join at any time and parents can decide the school holiday period for their child. The school day runs from 10am to 1.40pm (2.40pm for secondary students), and fees are $1,800 per month for all grades.
There are no additional fees for application, class materials, uniform or other miscellaneous fees, or deposits. While the annual fee amounts to $21,600, parents pay monthly and do not pay for holiday periods that they choose themselves.
