Looking for an alternative to mainstream education? A school with affordable fees? The new 5 Steps Academy is an international school in Central Singapore offers a unique style of teaching and low fees.

Describing itself as “different in the world of international education”, 5 Steps Academy is an elementary and secondary school that offers small class sizes and personalised learning plans. Located in Central Singapore this school for five through to 18-year-olds does not adopt a traditional UK or IB curriculum. Instead, 5 Steps Academy follows a flexible, multilingual curriculum and a unique 5 Steps System, which focuses on allocating the right amount of time for each academic subject based on the child’s age.

In the school’s own words,

“The 5 Steps System™ is based on the rational use of age-appropriate characteristics of the stages of the child’s development with the main goal of accelerating their mastery of school curriculum.”

The school focuses on English, maths, science, Chinese and Russian at elementary level, and then biology, chemistry, physics, economics, world literature, history and geography at secondary level. There’s also a strong emphasis on extra-curricular activities, from drama and music to sports and coding, and all students are required to complete community service as part of the social programme.

There’s no formal academic year at 5 Steps Academy, and students can join at any time and parents can decide the school holiday period for their child. The school day runs from 10am to 1.40pm (2.40pm for secondary students), and tuition fees range from SGP $ 1,500-1,800 per month.

A full review will be posted shortly.
