Hillside World Academy is moving to a new city campus located in Marina Square. Previously located in the North East community of Hougang, this all-through school offers an IB education that’s rooted in Chinese language and tradition.
The school's owner China Maple Leaf Educational Systems, which also owns Canadian International School, sold its previous Hillside Drive site to NPS International School. HWA's new campus has 11 classrooms and one multi-purpose room.
NPS International School, an all-through school offering a choice of Indian, UK, and IB curricula, will move its primary school to the old Hillside World Academy campus in Hillside Drive in mid-January. The school, which is currently located in Bedok, enrols 1,800 students from Nursery to Grade 12. It also plans to move its secondary school to a new Central location around July 2023, which has yet to be announced. In the interim, the Secondary campus will move to Eunos Primary School.
From August 2025, Brighton College (Singapore) will extend its offering to students aged up to 13 years by opening admissions for Year 8. Brighton College (Singapore) opened in August 2020 to deliver a very British pre-prep and prep education to students in Pre-Nursery to Year 5; it has since opened Years 6-7.
One of Brighton College’s strengths is that it is purely focused on primary education, which means that all resources, teaching, and facilities within the school are geared towards the five to 13 year age group. There are no immediate plans to open a secondary school, but it is a possibility sources tell us.
The Perse School (Singapore), which currently enrols students aged five to 12 years, opened Year 7 in August 2022 and will open Year 8 in August 2023; the school is "actively looking for a secondary campus".
A new, 11-storey state-of-the-art building (pictured above) will be completed at Tanglin Trust School in early 2023, providing a 50m swimming pool, physio and fitness facilities, gymnastics centre, music rooms, recital room, 18 additional pianos, and more.
A highlight of the Centenary Building is an Olympic-sized, 50m swimming pool, which has a bulkhead that can be used to split the pool into two. The pool will be covered and has diving blocks, split-screen scoreboards and cameras.
There will also be a new gymnasium, athletic development gym, infant dining hall, and parent cafe.
Canadian International School (CIS) is opening a new Junior Wing in January 2023 at its Lakeside campus (pictured above). This will include a huge 2,600 sqm Outdoor Discovery Centre with sound and art gardens, a mud kitchen and eco pond, as well as nature tunnels, a play fort and yoga lawn. The new wing, designed for students in Kindergarten through to Grade 6, will also include an indoor swimming complex which consists of a 25-metre and learn to swim pool, a new indoor gymnasium, learning bakery and a 200-seat black-box theatre.
La Petite Ecole will open a fully trilingual class in French, English, and Mandarin in January 2023 for students aged three to four years. The school, which has a Kindergarten in Bukit Timah and Elementary school (currently from six to eight years old) in Newton, will then offer pre-schoolers the opportunity to learn all three languages for the rest of their time at the school.
School Principal Florian Coss said:
“This is an ambitious project we have been working on. Our team is highly motivated. We are experienced in co-teaching and in organising the alternance of languages. Moreover, Odyssey’s expertise and resources are a great asset to support us in implementing pluralistic approaches.”
